When you eat,

the circle is complete

A new style of market

What is marugohan?

A new style of market where instead of paying money you do a good deed to shop for food.

We created a clean and open environment, just like a supermarket, to give our members a unique shopping experience.

Our goal is to provide access to food in a way that brings happiness and joy, and creates a virtuous cycle of receiving and giving back.

About our name

maru = circle, satisfaction and cycle + gohan = meal and food.

Why is the food free?

We only provide 100% safe food. Major food companies and retailers donate their food so we can pass along those savings to you.

Instead of money, we simply ask you to give back – pay it forward. We only provide 100% safe food.

What is an action or good deed for society?

Here are three things that will support marugohan

  1. Introduce marugohan to someone you know.
  2. Send postcard or letter to a stakeholder (food donor, financial supporter, or government agency) and tell them what marugohan means to you.
  3. Volunteer at marugohan / Second Harvest Japan.

Which food companies are supporting marugohan?

Many of the major food companies donate to us.

In 2002 we only had two companies who signed agreements with us to donate. By 2007 that number reached 15.

Currently, over 1,700 companies have donated food to us. This means we can offer a larger range of food to you.

In addition to food, we have many companies and groups providing financial support.
